We are a woman-owned, family business, and since 2008, we have helped thousands of Texans in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, El Paso, Arlington, Corpus Christi, Plano, Lubbock, and throughout the United States. We are a local team of experienced, passionate linguists who know how to connect you with speakers of Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese, German, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese, and more.
In 15 years of service to businesses and individuals in Texas, the United States, and throughout the world, we have been privileged to translate thousands of documents and interpret at hundreds of assignments. Many of these are foreign-language orders going into English for people coming into the US for work and study. Many more are English orders going into Spanish, French, Portuguese, and other languages for state and local organizations reaching out to immigrant and foreign audiences. This is of particular importance when the organization receives federal funding because of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which guarantees linguistic minorities the right to receive services in their own languages, or the Americans with Disabilities Act, which protects the language access rights of deaf persons.
Talk to any of our staff and you'll soon see that it's not just a job: it's a calling. Whether it's transcripts for universities, signage for local businesses, or documents for USCIS, we build bridges of communication and break down walls of misunderstanding. Today's world needs more translation. And in case you haven't talked to us in a while, we changed our name in 2018 from Austin Certified Translation to Texan Translation to reflect a broader mission.
Owner and General Manager, Margaret Hanson, started Texan Translation with her husband, Marco, in 2008. Margaret has always seen language as a bridge between people and cultures and is excited to help people reach goals and achieve success by providing quality translation services. She is a native of Brownsville, Texas and has a Bachelor's degree from the University of the South. She began in the translation field in Austin after a career in bilingual education. He is certified by the American Translator's Association as well as being a Master Licensed Court Interpreter in the state of Texas and a Federally Certified Court Interpreter.
Mary C. Lamb joined the Texan Translation team after a career in education teaching Spanish. Growing up on the Mexican border and having spent a good deal of time in Mexico, Mary has a great appreciation for different cultures - their cuisine, music, art, and language - and she sees translation as a way of building bridges between these different cultures. Mary loves helping people and uses her knowledge of language to break down barriers and build people up. Fun fact about Mary: she has moved 17 times since college!
Alejandra Castro started in Texan Translation as a Client Services Representative and is now one of our top translators. She is from El Salvador and processes many of our Forensic Transcription and Translation orders, translates from English into Spanish, and is still a stellar CSR. She holds a bachelor's degree from Bircham Executive College. Alejandra eats pizza once a week, because she loves it, and can't end her week without a cheesy pizza in her stomach.
Laurel Hanson started working at Texan Translation as a subcontractor and now works as a Project Manager. She has a bachelor's in political science from Vassar College and is especially interested in how language and intercultural communication (both successful and unsuccessful) shape global politics. Laurel loves hiking and stargazing at Big Bend National Park!
Shannon Turner joined Texan Translation as vendor manager in 2021. She loves language and culture and enjoys learning about the diverse experiences and skills of our translators. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and has studied multiple languages. Shannon enjoys biking, gardening, and the outdoors in general. She dreams of building an off-grid cob house and growing bushels of peaches.
